Email from Elder Lofthouse 7/21/15 Yellowknife...yes

How was everybody's week?  Mine was pretty amazing.
Tuesday I flew up yo Yellowknife. It was really weird being alone. It was only for a few hours, but it was still the strangest feeling. But I did hand out some cards!  Haha. So after I landed in Yellowknife Elder Anderson and Elder Richards took me out to meet a less active member. He lives on a houseboat, so we had to canoe to get to it. How cool is that?  So after that we went and took Elder Richards to the airport. He went home last week. So that was fun. Then we had supper with Elder and Sister Hunt. They're the senior couple up here in Yellowknife right now. They are awesome. To finish off the day we went and helped clean a house. It was really gross, but we got most of it done.
Wednesday was a most excellent day. We took P day because yesterday was so chaotic trying to get everyone everywhere on time and all that jazz. So we went fishing with the branch mission leader's son. He's a super cool kid. We went all over to try and catch some fish. There are lakes EVERYWHERE up here. It's intense. And the bugs are the biggest bugs I've seen since I was in Alaska last year. They're huge. It was great. Then we helped a guy fix a boat, so that was fun. After that we went to an orientation meeting for a volunteer thing we are doing on Saturday. I'm super excited for all this. I'm going to love it here.
Thursday went well. We had district meeting. Elder Anderson is the district leader and its us and the Hunts in the district. It's pretty great. After that we did Facebook stuff. Then we got to help Stephan, the less active guy who lives on a houseboat, start repainting a bathroom. So that was fun. Then we went to supper with the Johnston's. They're a great family. Everybody is super dramatic and its hilarious. Then we tried to stop by a bunch of people, but everybody was either not home or busy, so we didn't meet with anyone. It was a pretty good day though. I really like it up here. And our apartment has a fitness centre with weights and treadmills and a bike and everything. So the workout situation is great. I love it.
Friday was an amazing day. Elder Anderson and I went and played what is called Balloon Badminton, which was awesome.  We played at an extended care unit up here. It was super fun. Basically all the residents sit in a circle around us and everybody has badminton rackets and then we hit balloons to everybody and they hit them back. It's super fun. After that we did Facebook, which always is good. Afterwards we tried to stop by more people, but nobody is home apparently. I did meet Brother Bellis. He's the first counselor in the branch presidency. He's a super cool guy. Then we went and volunteered at Folk in the Rocks. We got to cook food for a bunch of performers. It was exhausting, but we were able to talk to a lot of people. So it was an awesome day.
Saturday was also fun. In the morning we went and helped out a member with some stuff around his house. That was fun. Then we went and did our weekly planning, and washed the truck. It looks super good when it's clean. Then we had supper with the Hs at 4 o'clock. We had it early so that we could all make it to Branch Council. Branch council sure was interesting. I've never served in a small branch before, so this should be interesting. After that Elder Anderson and I went to Folk on the Rocks again. This time our job was to basically babysit drunk people. We did have a lot of really good conversations with some sober people there. It was a lot of fun, but it was super tiring. It was worth the contact though.
Sunday we first went to church. It was really good. I really enjoy church. Then we stopped by a whole bunch of people, but again nobody was home. So we had supper with the Hunts again, and then we had a lesson with a less active member named E. He's a super cool guy who works as a chef for a restaurant here in town. He's awesome. I love it here up in Yellowknife.
Monday was a sweet day. We went and set up some service for us to do next week, and then we did Facebook. After that brother Taylor took us to Boston Pizza. It was super good. Then we drove out to a campsite about 2 hours outside Yellowknife to meet with the Ss. They're a couple of investigators who are in date for August 8. I'm so excited for them. That pretty much took up the rest of the day. It was awesome.
This week I learned that we all need to just love people. We don't need to do anything else than that. Nothing we do will have a lasting impact on people unless we love them. It will be tough to love some people during the course of our lives, but if we can overlook the little irritations and look for the good in all people, this life will be much more enjoyable. Try it. If you feel yourself getting agitated with somebody this week, stop yourself and then remind yourself of what you love about that person. It will make all the difference.
I love you all and hope you have a great week!
